Does chemo neuropathy go away?

The National Cancer Institute's page on nerve problems does not give one answer here. It does not say whether treatment-related peripheral neuropathy goes away, or how long it lasts. How long symptoms last is something only your health care team can discuss with you, based on your treatment and your situation.

What NCI does say clearly is that timing matters. Watch for symptoms such as tingling, numbness, or a pins-and-needles feeling in your feet and hands. If they start, talk with your doctor or nurse. Getting these problems diagnosed and treated early is the best way to control them, prevent further damage, and reduce pain and other complications.

NCI also suggests preparing for your visit with a list of questions. Its own suggested list includes two that speak directly to this concern:

• When will these problems start? How long might they last?
• What medicine, treatments, and integrative medicine practices could help me to feel better?

Your care team knows which treatment you are receiving. They can tell you what to expect, which symptoms to call about, and what may help you feel better along the way.
